The Patrol Division is the largest division within the Knightdale Police Department and serves as the backbone of the organization, providing professional law enforcement services 24 hours a day. The division is commanded by a Police Captain who oversees all operations and ensures the effective delivery of patrol services. The division is organized into four patrol squads, with two squads commanded by Watch Commanders holding the rank of Lieutenant. Each squad is further supervised by officers holding the ranks of Sergeant and Corporal. Patrol personnel perform a wide range of law enforcement functions, including the preservation of public peace, the protection of life and property, the prevention of crime, and the enforcement of state and local laws.
In addition to routine patrol duties, officers conduct the preliminary investigation of all crimes and routinely carry out follow-up investigations involving misdemeanors and select felony offenses. Patrol Division personnel are also responsible for enforcing traffic laws, investigating traffic crashes involving vehicles and pedestrians, and promoting safe roadways throughout the community. Members of the division work closely with other Town of Knightdale departments to enforce the Town Code of Ordinances, support community initiatives, and ensure the overall safety and quality of life for residents.
