Arbor Day

Friday, May 7, 2021 will be proclaimed as Arbor Day in the Town of Knightdale by Mayor Jessica Day! Each year, the Town of Knightdale holds an Arbor Day event where we celebrate the importance of trees to our community and are recognized by the North Carolina Forest Service as a Tree City USA community. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, last year we hosted the Town's first Virtual Arbor Day! It was so successful, we’ve decided to do it again this year!

We invite you to join us virtually  for this fun event. On Friday, May 7 at 3 p.m. the Town will host a Facebook Live broadcast of a tree-planting ceremony from Wake Stone Athletic Park and announce winners of a tree-themed art contest!

Arbor Day Art Contest

The Town would love to engage the citizens of Knightdale on this important day, so we are asking all school-aged children to participate in an Arbor Day Art Contest! Any school-aged child who submits a tree-themed art creation will be entered in a raffle to win one of ten $25.00 gift cards from a Knightdale business of their choice!

All submitted art projects will also be put into a slideshow and be shown at the end of the Facebook Live Virtual Arbor Day broadcast!

How to Participate:
  • Create a work of art showing the benefits of trees and how they improve our community
  • Scan or photograph your art project
  • Send it to us via this Online Form
  • Art projects must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30
  • Tune into our Facebook Live broadcast for a raffle drawing and announcement of the winners!

Trees benefit our community in so many ways. Here are just a couple ideas of what to include in your art project. Include as many as you can!
  1. Creating oxygen for us to breathe.
  2. Reducing air pollution.
  3. Providing shade where we can rest.
  4. Providing food for us to eat.
  5. Providing habitat in which animals can live.
