$55 million investment will support a new community center and improvements to parks and recreation facilities throughout the Town
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (November 4, 2026) – Knightdale voters have approved the Town's 2026 Parks and Recreation Bond Referendum, authorizing up to $55 million in general obligation bonds to support investments in parks and recreation facilities, including the development of a new community center.
The Town of Knightdale thanks everyone who took the time to learn about the referendum, participate in community conversations, ask questions, and cast their vote. The approval represents an important investment in Knightdale's future and will help address the recreational needs of a growing community.
At the center of the proposal is a new approximately 65,000-square-foot community center planned for a 33-acre Town-owned property at 2004 Marks Creek Road. The property was donated to the Town by the late A. Elizabeth Croom.
The proposed facility is expected to include multiple gymnasiums, fitness studios, and multipurpose spaces designed to support programming for residents of different ages and interests. The larger site plan also includes opportunities for outdoor recreation and community activities.
The bond may contribute funding for improvements to existing parks and recreation facilities, along with related furnishings, equipment, land acquisition and infrastructure needs. Planning for the community center has involved several years of work, including community surveys, public engagement sessions, a needs assessment, and developing project concepts.
“This is an important step forward for Knightdale,” said Mayor Jessica Day. “We appreciate the residents who participated in this process and made their voices heard. This investment will help us provide more opportunities for recreation, connection, and community engagement as Knightdale continues to grow. We look forward to what this will mean for current and future generations of Knightdale residents.”
The referendum approval marks the start of the next phase of the project. The Town will move forward with the necessary financial planning, design, and project development processes. The Town will share additional information about project timelines and next steps as it becomes available.
