Dates of Service: 1943 - 1946

Sigma C. Wall was born at home in Wake County on May 12, 1923, the first born son and third child of the late Herbert Clyde Wall and Clyde Mae Medlin Wall. He was the only son to be a Boy Scout. As the oldest son, Sigma grew up farming with his family and was always looking out to help his family in any way. He was known to sing train songs loudly while he plowed behind the mule. Sigma graduated from Garner High School in 1940 after 10 years because he was smart and got to skip a grade. His desire was to be a doctor and knowing that was not an option, Sigma moved to Norfolk, Virginia to work in a healthcare setting.
Drafted into the US Army in 1942 during World War II, Sigma began his service to his country as a medic in 1943. He spent time in France, Germany, Austria, and the Philippines. Sigma was awarded the following: American Theater Service Medal; EAME Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star; Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Bronze Star Service Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He was extremely proud to have served his country.
Sigma Wall married Frances Mae Bunn on May 10, 1947. They raised four children in Knightdale: Judy W. Jones, Randy S. Wall, Cindy W. Haskin, and Freddy V. Wall. He began a career as a service man at CP&L that spanned 40 years in 1948. He was a faithful member of Knightdale Baptist Church for 54 years. Sigma Wall was a devoted son, brother, father, granddaddy, and friend. His smile and laughter are eternal.
