Town of Knightdale Honors Veterans During Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

Knightdale, NC – The Town of Knightdale welcomed residents, veterans, military families, and elected officials to the annual Memorial Day Ceremony held at the Veterans Memorial in Knightdale Station Park.

The ceremony honored the courageous men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces and recognized local veterans whose names were newly engraved on the Veterans Memorial monument.

This year’s keynote address was delivered by Lieutenant General Jack Shanahan, the posting of colors by the North Carolina State University Air Force ROTC Honor Guard, the singing of the National Anthem by Ashley Elliott, the Pledge of Allegiance by Knightdale Police Sergeant and US Army Veteran, Rod Glahn, and prayers from Pastor James Utley.

The following veterans were recognized with newly engraved names on the memorial:

United States Air Force
Bennie Coleman
Duane Smith

United States Army
Willard Carpenter
James Hart, Sr.
Wayne Lewis

United States Navy
Truett Horton

The event was attended by several local and regional elected officials, including Mayor Jessica Day, Mayor Pro Tem Steve Evans, Knightdale Councilors Latatious Morris and Grady Bussey, Wake County Commissioner Chair Don Mial, and Judge Julie Bell.

“Memorial Day is an opportunity for our community to pause, reflect, and honor those who answered the call to serve our nation,” said Mayor Jessica Day. “The ceremony holds such a special place within the annual traditions of our town. It symbolizes the best of Knightdale’s foundation and past, our present, and all we hope to give our residents in the future.”

The Town of Knightdale extends its gratitude to all veterans and military families for their sacrifice and service to the country.
