The Town of Knightdale hosted its Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26, at the Veterans Memorial in Knightdale Station Park. The event is held annually to honor local military veterans who served in any of the armed forces, and to display new names that have been engraved in the monuments at the Veterans Memorial.
Mayor Jessica Day presided over Monday’s ceremony, and she was supported by the Knightdale High School Army JROTC, Pastor Randall Owens (Cross Point Community Church), Andrew Mills (Bugles Across America), and a host of volunteers from the Veterans Memorial Advisory Board and the Knightdale community. This year’s keynote speaker was Siobhan Norris, Wake County Veteran Services Division Director.
“Our local military members are interwoven into the fabric of our town,” Mayor Day said. “It is only right that we pay homage to them, today and every day. I’m grateful to the Knightdale community for coming out year after year to pay their respects and support our military families and members, past and present.”
Noted guests at the event included Knightdale Council members Mayor Pro Tem Steve Evans, Mark Swan, and Latatious Morris; Wake County Board of Commissioners Vice-Chair Don Mial; Wake County Commissioner Shinica Thomas; Zebulon Commissioner Amber Davis; and North Carolina State Representative James Roberson.
