Knightdale, NC - Mayor Jessica Day has officially proclaimed November 1, 2026, as Extra Mile Day in the Town of Knightdale, joining communities across the country in recognizing individuals whose volunteer service, generosity, and everyday efforts improve lives and strengthen the community.

From supporting schools and community programs to caring for seniors, helping animals in need, and showing up when a neighbor needs a hand, these individuals give their time, energy, and heart often without recognition. Extra Mile Day shines a light on the people and organizations whose efforts make life better for others, one act of service at a time.

As a participating community with Extra Mile America, the Town of Knightdale is proud to recognize residents who demonstrate the spirit of going the extra mile. Mayor Jessica Day has proclaimed November 1 as Extra Mile Day in Knightdale, encouraging residents to recognize and celebrate those whose actions positively impact the lives of others.

This year's recipient is David McDowell, recognized for his continued commitment to serving families, supporting local schools, and contributing to the Knightdale community.

McDowell's impact is evident through his involvement with Lockhart Elementary School's PTA, where he has demonstrated a commitment to creating meaningful experiences for students and families. His contributions include supporting school initiatives, organizing and participating in Spirit Nights, helping coordinate fundraising raffles, and encouraging greater family engagement.

Beyond his involvement with the school, McDowell also gives his time through church involvement, coaching softball, and supporting others through his professional and personal relationships. As a manager at Earp's Seafood, he brings that same spirit of service and dedication to his work and interactions with others.

His commitment reflects the spirit of Extra Mile Day: recognizing that meaningful contributions do not always come through grand gestures, but often through the consistent, everyday actions of people who are willing to give their time, energy, and talents to help others.

"Communities are made stronger by individuals who are willing to step up, lend a hand, and make a difference without expecting anything in return," said Mayor Jessica Day. "David McDowell exemplifies that spirit, and we are proud to recognize his contributions to Knightdale."

Extra Mile Day is part of a national movement led by Extra Mile America, which works to inspire individuals and communities to embrace service, kindness, and personal commitment. The organization's mission includes encouraging 550 cities across America to officially recognize Extra Mile Day.

The Town of Knightdale encourages residents to take time on November 1 and throughout the year to recognize the people in their lives who consistently go above and beyond. Whether through volunteering, mentoring, supporting a neighbor, or simply showing kindness, every effort makes a difference.
