Rank: Machinist's Mate Third Class

Dates of Service: 1944 - 1945

Grover Cleveland Jones was born in Wake County, and his parents were Atlas Cleveland Jones and Mary Helen Busbee Jones. He married Beatrice Nora Wall (68 yrs.) and they were blessed to have five children (Lucy, Barbara, Phillip, Paul, & David), nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Grover's siblings were Albert (Buddy) Jones, Beatrice Wall, and Pauline Wall.

Grover served his country in the Navy during World War II and after leaving service worked farming in Wake County for the next 20 years. He then retired after working another 20 years with the North Carolina State Prison Department transporting farm equipment to several prison run campuses across the state. After retirement, he continued to work part time as a security guard for Measurements Group in Wendell, allowing full-time guards to have time off on weekends and holidays.

Mr. and Mrs. Jones ensured all of their children attended every Sunday Worship at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Knightdale. Their son, Paul, shared that he still remembers those seventeen pens for perfect attendance on his older brother's Sunday coat. The Jones and Wall families were pillar stones at Bethlehem Baptist Church for many, many years.
