Dorsey Lee Adams was born on August 22, 1920, in Wake County, North Carolina, to David Henry Adams, Sr. and Lela Morris Adams. He joined the Army Air Forces in 1942, where he trained gunners using the Waller Trainer at Fort Myers. On January 28, 1943, he married Joyce Edwards. Together, they had three daughters and one son.
Dorsey worked as the farm manager for Thompson Orphanage in Charlotte and later served as the groundskeeper at Meredith College. He was also an avid dog trainer and breeder, raising registered English Beagles, and won numerous trophies at the State Fair for his prize-winning chickens. A professional Western-style square dance caller, he traveled extensively across the United States and Canada sharing his passion for dance.
He passed away on January 21, 2002, in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the age of 81. He was laid to rest with military honors at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Knightdale, North Carolina.
