Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste is not collected by the Town of Knightdale due to its caustic properties and potential for environmental contamination; however, Wake County operates a household hazardous waste disposal program that is open to Knightdale residents at the following locations:

North Wake Solid Waste Management Facility (map, directions)

Raleigh, NC 27614
Monday - Saturday, 8am-4pm

Accepted household hazardous waste materials include:

  • acids / bases
  • automobile fluids / antifreeze
  • batteries
  • cooking oil / motor oil
  • fire extinguishers (dry chemical)
  • fluorescent light bulbs
  • fuel oil / lighter fluid / kerosene
  • household cleaners / chemicals
  • mercury thermometers
  • paints / lacquers / polishes
  • pesticides / herbicides poisons
  • photographic chemicals
  • solvents / thinners / wood preservatives

Unaccepted household hazardous waste materials include:

  • ammunition
  • commercially generated waste
  • explosives / shock sensitive items
  • hypodermic needles / syringes
  • medical waste
  • radioactive materials
  • smoke detectors
  • trash / recyclables
  • unknown materials
