The Patrol Division is the backbone of our organization. The Patrol Division is comprised of four patrol squads, commanded by a two Watch Commanders, holding the rank of  Lieutenant and is supplemented by Shift Supervisors holding the ranks of Sergeant and Corporal. Patrol personnel are responsible for a variety of law enforcement functions; chief among them is the preservation of the public peace, the protection of life and property, and the prevention of crime.

The Patrol Division is tasked with conducting the preliminary investigation of all crimes. Officers are also required to conduct follow-up criminal investigations involving misdemeanors and certain felony crimes. Uniformed personnel are required to enforce traffic laws and investigate accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians, as well as coordinate with other town departments to investigate and enforce town ordinances.
