Agency Divisions

The Knightdale Police Department is comprised of three separate divisions made up of 33 sworn and non-sworn personnel. Two Division Commanders holding the rank of Captain are assigned to the agency's Support Services Division and Patrol Division. A civilian Administrative Manager oversees Records, Training, Evidence and Accreditation functions. The Captains and the Administrative Manager report directly to the Chief of Police. Together, these four positions make up the agency's command staff.

The department's Patrol Division is divided into four patrol squads that provide 24/7 law enforcement services. Each squad is led by a Shift Commander holding the rank of Lieutenant, and is supplemented by a Shift Supervisor holding the rank Sergeant. The remaining personnel are line officers with varying classifications - Police Officer I, Police Officer II and Master Officer. The Patrol Division is comprised of 20 sworn members.

The Support Services Division encompasses the Traffic, Investigative and SRO units. An Investigative Lieutenant supervises the functions of the Investigative Unit and both School Resource Officers. Two Traffic Officers are also assigned to this division and answer directly to the Traffic Unit Sergeant. All told, the Support Services Division has a compliment of twenty nine sworn personnel.
