Building Permits
Apply for a Building Permit
Commercial and residential building permits are submitted online via the Wake County Permit Portal. Please note that while the Town of Knightdale uses Wake County's permitting software, all permits are reviewed and issued by the Town of Knightdale. Plans should be submitted in one file, in .pdf format with all pages in order and labeled.
Before a permit is released, all building and trade contractors will need to create a Permit Portal account and be linked to the permit.
Fire Permits for Commercial Projects
Fire permits shall NOT be submitted via the Permit Portal. This includes requests for alarms, sprinkler systems, hoods, blasting, pyrotechnics/fireworks, underground storage tank removal, and tents. Please contact the Knightdale Fire Department at 919-217-2292 for questions regarding permit submittals, or you may email shop drawings to fireinspections@knightdalenc.gov.
Need Help with the Portal?
You will first need to set up an account using an email address and password. After verifying your email address, you will be able to submit an application, obtain plan review comments, status updates, pay permit fees, and schedule inspections through the portal system.
