David Paul Shearon was born on December 29, 1926, in Wake County, North Carolina, to Charles Beaman Shearon and Vena Frances Fowler. He joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served in the Mediterranean Sea aboard the U.S.S. Robinson and the U.S.S. Durik until 1946. For his service, he was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal, Victory – World War II Medal, European-African Campaign Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation Medal.
On April 17, 1946, he married Ruby Pearl Guin. Together, they raised three children: Angela, Paul, and Frances.
Following the war, David owned a sheet metal business in Wendell, North Carolina, before transitioning to a career at Wachovia Bank, where he eventually retired as a Regional Maintenance Manager. Known as the man who could fix anything, he was often called upon for help and was always ready to lend a hand. His generosity and willingness to serve others earned him lasting respect and gratitude in his community.
After retirement, David and Ruby traveled extensively across the United States, including a memorable journey through Alaska. A passionate lover of nature and animals, he captured countless treasured moments on film, preserving the beauty he so deeply admired.
David passed away on September 17, 1998, in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the age of 71. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruby, their three children, and six grandchildren. He was laid to rest with military honors at Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Raleigh, North Carolina.
