october 4, 1921 - february 21, 1944

rank: Staff Sergeant

Dates of Service: 1944

Charlie H. Flowers (Horace) was one of nine children born to John Williamston and Effie E. Flowers, who were residents of Knightdale virtually all their lives.  Horace, a tail gunner in a B-17, was shot down during WW2 over the Zuider Zee (a shallow bay of the North Sea in the northwest of the Netherlands, ), en route to a bombing raid against Germany. While there were some survivors, the craft was lost, and Horace's body was never recovered.
