Watch the Town's Public Service
Announcement and find out why making sure you are
counted is so important!
WHEN:
April 1, 2010 is Census Day.
Visit the
official Census 2010 website.
WHO:
Everyone residing within the United
States and its territories.
WHAT:
The biggest change for 2010 is that everyone
now gets just the short form. So it's only 10
questions in less than 10 minutes! The long
form has been replaced by a new Census Bureau program
called the "American Community Survey" which is sent out
to a sampling of homes every year. In addition to
documenting how many people live at your place of
residence, there are a few other quick questions.
View a sample English-only questionnaire or a
Cuestionario en EspaƱol.
WHY:
An accurate count of people living in
Knightdale is important because Census data are used to
distribute Congressional seats to states, to make
decisions about what community services to provide, and
to distribute $400 billion in federal funds to local,
state and tribal governments each year.
HOW:
In March, the Census Bureau will mail you a
form. Simply fill it out and return it to the
Census Bureau using the included self-addressed, stamped
envelope. A Census worker will only visit or call your
residence if you fail to return your form in the mail.
All Census employees will carry official identification.
