TOWN COUNCIL ELIMINATES U-TURNS ON
EDENBURGH’S KEEP DR.
April 19, 2007 - At their April 18th meeting,
the Knightdale Town Council voted to outlaw u-turn movements at the
entrance to Edenburgh’s Keep subdivision onto Smithfield Rd. The
action was necessitated by a change in the traffic pattern at
Lockhart Elementary School, just to the south on Smithfield Rd.
Fire Chief Tim Guffey to Council reported that he was told by Wake
County Public School System officials that a decision had been made
to allow right turn only exiting the school. Most vehicles leaving
the school are headed south, and the right turn only exit leaves the
neighborhood entrance as the first available location to turn
around. The change at the school has unintentionally created an
adverse traffic impact at Edenburgh’s Keep, and Council sympathized
with those that will have to use Forestville Rd. and Old Knight as
the new route back to Knightdale Blvd. The decision to eliminate
U-turns is effective immediately as motorists should notice
temporary signs being posted by the Street Department.
